Types of tinnitus and their treatment

Tinnitus should be approached in a multidisciplinary way.

Often, the cause is not clear, and only specialised examinations and functional testing can help to direct towards a diagnosis and possible treatment. Both ENT surgeons and neurosurgeons have an important role in this process.

In selected cases where no causal treatment can be offered, tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT), psychological counselling or hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be of help.
